Review COLLADA assets and DAE animation
Tridi Viewer opens .dae COLLADA files locally on Windows. Use it to inspect a scene exported by a digital-content-creation application, browse its hierarchy, and play supported animation without reopening the authoring tool.
COLLADA is an XML-based interchange format that can describe much more than a final mesh, including scene nodes, materials, controllers, and animation. Exporters do not always interpret those systems in the same way, so a focused viewer is useful for checking the portable subset that reached the file.
Common COLLADA viewing use cases
- Check a legacy game, visualization, or DCC asset before conversion to a newer delivery format.
- Verify scene hierarchy, transforms, up axis, and object names after a
.daeexport. - Review material and local texture resolution separately from geometry and topology.
- Play supported transform, skeletal, or morph animation to catch a broken handoff early.
Supported COLLADA data
- Polygon meshes, hierarchy, transforms, and source topology.
- Common materials, local textures, normals, UVs, and vertex colors.
- Linear transform and morph animation.
- Bones and four-influence skinning.
Practical file checks
A DAE file often points to texture images stored beside it or in relative subfolders. Preserve the exported folder structure when moving the asset. If a model appears with incomplete materials, inspect the material and texture panels and confirm that the referenced image files are present.
Use the Objects panel to compare the imported hierarchy with the exporter, Solid Wireframe to inspect available source edges, and the animation controls to select and scrub supported clips. Unexpected orientation can often be traced to an up-axis or transform interpretation rather than damaged mesh data.
COLLADA support boundaries
Source naming and up-axis behavior depend on the COLLADA import settings. Complex effects, constraints, physics, exporter-specific data, and application-specific shaders may not reproduce the source application exactly. Mesh-swap animation is not supported.
