Inspect PMX character models
Tridi Viewer opens .pmx files locally on Windows. Use it to review supported character geometry, materials, bones, skinning, and morph targets in a real-time viewport.
PMX is associated with MikuMikuDance character workflows and can combine a mesh with material assignments, a bone hierarchy, skinning weights, and multiple morph categories. Tridi Viewer treats the file as an inspectable model asset; it does not emulate the complete MMD runtime or editing environment.
Common PMX viewing use cases
- Review character proportions, orientation, surface appearance, and mesh topology.
- Check whether material slots and local textures resolve after moving or unpacking a model.
- Inspect the imported bone hierarchy, skinning, vertex morphs, and supported group morphs.
- Use UV, wireframe, and render-pass views to diagnose deformation or shading issues.

Textures, morphs, and motion files
Keep the PMX file and its texture folders together because material references normally depend on local files. If a character appears untextured, inspect the material and texture lists and confirm that the referenced paths survived extraction, renaming, or transfer.
A PMX model and VMD motion are separate assets. Tridi Viewer does not load external VMD motion, so opening a rigged PMX file does not automatically provide a dance or motion clip. Supported morph data can still be inspected as part of the model, but runtime behavior may differ from MMD-specific tools.
PMX support boundaries
Bone, UV, material, flip, and impulse morphs are not implemented. Unsupported morphs are omitted while usable model data remains available. MMD-specific physics, constraints, toon-shading behavior, external motion, camera data, and application-specific rendering should be verified in a dedicated MMD workflow.
For general diagnosis, compare the Objects, Materials, UV View, Solid Wireframe, and render-pass panels. A correct static preview confirms only the subset imported by Tridi Viewer; it does not certify identical appearance or motion in every PMX-compatible application.
