3MF Viewer for Windows
Open supported 3MF files on Windows and inspect static polygon meshes, component instances, object names, materials, and source topology.
Applies to Tridi Viewer 1.1.3 public beta. Check current format support.
Inspect packaged 3MF models on Windows
Tridi Viewer opens supported .3mf packages locally on Windows. Review the assembled model, object names, component transforms, available material data, and source mesh topology without sending the file to an online service.
Unlike a geometry-only exchange file, a 3MF package can describe model units, reusable object resources, component relationships, and material properties in one container. That makes it useful for additive-manufacturing handoffs, but it also means that two 3MF files can depend on very different parts of the specification.
Common 3MF viewing use cases
- Confirm that a packaged build has the expected objects, component instances, orientation, and overall dimensions.
- Review mesh topology and surface appearance before passing an asset to a slicer or manufacturing workflow.
- Investigate missing colors, textures, or components after exporting from another design application.
- Compare repeated component transforms without opening the original authoring software.
Supported 3MF data
- Static polygon-mesh objects and build-item transforms.
- Supported component hierarchies, including external object-model instances.
- Object names, base materials, colors, textures, and UVs when representable.
- Source topology, dimensions, object selection, and render inspection.
What to verify during inspection
Use the Objects panel to check the imported hierarchy and select individual build items. Dimensions can reveal an unexpected unit or transform, while Solid Wireframe shows the polygon boundaries that Tridi Viewer received. Material and texture panels help distinguish missing appearance data from a geometry problem.
Tridi Viewer is a model viewer, not a slicer, printability validator, or repair tool. A visually correct preview does not confirm wall thickness, manifold geometry, printer settings, support generation, or manufacturing tolerances.
3MF support boundaries
Dynamic scene data and some advanced material, production, secure-content, beam-lattice, slice, and vendor-specific extension resources are not fully supported. A package without supported triangle-mesh geometry cannot be displayed. If an extension is essential to the intended result, verify the same file in the originating application or a tool that explicitly supports that extension.
Format reference: the 3MF Consortium specification suite documents the core package and its optional extensions.
