Review STL meshes and triangle edges
Tridi Viewer opens binary and ASCII .stl files locally on Windows. It is useful for checking the visible shape, triangle layout, orientation, and dimensions of a mesh before sharing or manufacturing it.
STL represents a surface as triangular facets. It does not define scene hierarchy, materials, textures, or a standard unit, which makes the format simple and widely portable but leaves important manufacturing context outside the file. Tridi Viewer shows the geometry that is present without treating it as a complete print job.
Common STL viewing use cases
- Confirm that an exported part has the expected shape, orientation, scale, and bounding dimensions.
- Inspect triangle density and authored facet edges before sharing a mesh or opening it in a slicer.
- Compare a coarse or unexpectedly faceted surface with the tessellation settings used by the source CAD tool.
- Review a static scan or printable mesh without uploading potentially sensitive geometry.

- Configurable source units and optional duplicate-vertex welding during import.
Set the correct STL units
STL does not define a standard unit in the file. Choose the source unit in Preferences before reopening the model when its dimensions are incorrect. A shape exported in millimeters but interpreted as meters can still look visually correct until its dimensions are checked.
Optional duplicate-vertex welding can make shared topology easier to inspect, but it changes how coincident vertices are represented during import. Keep it disabled when preserving the file's original per-facet separation matters to your diagnosis.
STL support boundaries
STL does not carry hierarchy, PBR materials, textures, UVs, skinning, or animation. Tridi Viewer is not a slicer or mesh-repair application: it does not confirm manifoldness, wall thickness, clearances, support requirements, printer settings, or whether the surface is suitable for fabrication.
Solid Wireframe and diagnostic shading can reveal suspicious facets, normals, or tessellation, but manufacturing decisions should be validated in dedicated mesh-repair, CAD, and slicing tools.
