Inspect IGES and BREP CAD geometry
Tridi Viewer opens .iges, .igs, and .brep files on Windows and tessellates supported CAD shapes for real-time viewing. Native CAD edge topology remains available for solid-wireframe inspection.
IGES is a neutral exchange format used by many established CAD workflows, while BREP files preserve boundary-representation shapes used by Open CASCADE Technology. Both describe geometry differently from a polygon-only mesh, so Tridi Viewer creates display triangles while retaining available topological edges for inspection.
Common IGES and BREP viewing use cases
- Review a supplier or customer CAD handoff without modifying the source model.
- Check overall dimensions, orientation, hierarchy, object names, and available colors.
- Inspect face boundaries and native CAD edges for gaps or unexpected part segmentation.

How CAD inspection differs from mesh viewing
The shaded surface is a tessellated representation generated for the viewport. Increasing tessellation quality can make curved faces look smoother, but it also creates more display geometry and can increase load time and memory use. Solid Wireframe uses available native curve topology instead of merely drawing every display triangle, which is more useful for understanding CAD face boundaries.
Dimensions describe the imported scene or current selection. They are useful for a quick scale check, but Tridi Viewer does not evaluate drawing tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, manufacturing annotations, watertightness, or CAD-kernel validity.
Viewing, not parametric CAD editing
IGES and BREP support is intended for inspection. Tridi Viewer does not expose feature history, parametric editing, textures, UVs, skinning, or animation from CAD files. Malformed or unsupported CAD entities can prevent import, and a successful visual preview does not certify the source shape for manufacturing.
